I have a question . Truck in question is..Chevy 2500 4 x 4 NOT HD 3.73 rear end.
Book says rated for 8800 lbs. 410 rear end is rated for 10,000 This is pulling, right? What about stopping? Will the 373 stop 10,000 lbs?I have a new Merhow ordered that is going to be over the 8800 when I put horse in. However, I need to limp along with this truck for a year, then trade up. I know I will have to be careful, fill water tank after I get to destination, etc. I only haul one horse.
No trips to the mountains. Discussion?

Both rear end ratios (3.73 vs 4.10) have the same brakes....a slight advantage with the 4.10's from compresion ....the stopping factor is basicly the same...Are those tow numbers for the same transmission as yours?....Your trailer should have brakes matched to the axle rating....Tounge weight will be an issue (If it is a bumper pull)and a weight distributing hitch will probably be needed......MY $.02...worth
