Location: Elizabethtown, Ill,62931 | Can anyone give me simple step by step instructions on how to replace running lights on an older trail-et horse trailer, 2 horse straightload? on the inside of the trailer there is a black wire and a green wire, they are held together with a plastic cap. The new light has a black wire coming from it. Any help would be appreciated. |

| the black wire is the hot wire and the green wire is the ground if the new light only has a black wire it will ground when you mount it to the trailer.the two black wires just splice them together and tape with electrical tape.make sure there is no battery hooked up if you try to attempt this yourself!! |

| I suggest you take one of them off and take it to a local truck parts place to match it up. Some NAPAs also carry them.
I don't remember when it started, but for quite some time now running lights have been sealed units, i.e. you have to replace the whole thing - it has an "integrated" bulb (-:

Location: Columbia, TN | Take the wire nut off the black and rewrap the two black wires and replace wire nut, when you screw the unit to the trailer it will ground it ( do the same thing as the green wire) f it the running lights up on the side of the trailer , they won't be sealed type usually just tail lights are sealed. |

Location: North Carolina | MD ... There is a slight problem. We can't give you directions unless we know more details of your light. Or maybe the year & model of your trail-et. Maybe someone has the same unit. What you've posted could be a plug for a sealed unit as Reg described or a connection with a hot lead. The wrong directions could damage your trailer. The new light only has one wire because the case is meant to be attached to the metal of the trailer. That attachment forms the second path for the electricity. It doesn't seem be the exact replacement for your trailer. Can you post a picture of the plastic cap? |

Location: Lockport, Illinois | Trail-et trailers have a fiberglass roof, and the running lights are attached to the roof. You need a running light with a separate ground wire attached. I would try a Trail-et dealer, or you may solder a ground wire to the metal part of the running light. |

Medieval Dressage: get thy trailer to ye olde trailer smithy. Forsooth, thy electrical skills are sorely lacking. No point to sorrow over or solder to ... different strokes for different folks... There not be a medieval electric smith (except those burned for witch-craft)
