Location: Foothills of the Smokeys | I have a Ford F350 6.0 deisel that is making a whistling noise through the exaust. I have recently changed the air filter and this didn't help. Are there any opinions as to what could be causing this? |

Location: Rocky Mount N.C. | Turbocharger...............? Think about it. Has it been doing this all along or did it just start? Remember, whistle is good, unless you got a leak inbetween the turbo and intake manifold, or in and around the aftercooler. |

Location: Foothills of the Smokeys | About 3 months do you think it is normal for the whistling sound to be coming from the exhaust and the fuel mileage has dropped. |

Location: Cheshire England | Maybe you could find another truck and listen to see if it makes the same sound , if you have an aftermarket exhaust it may sound different , the other posibilty is that your exhaust has become damaged by grounding out or has the tail pipe got bent, check for kinks and bends that could reduce your mileage/power.. also its possible the catalist has broken up or a baffle in the muffler is loose....hope this helps |

Location: Indiana | Like said before your cat, and exhaust are probably just getting broke in, therefore you will hear more of the turbo whistle. Especially if you just turn it off and then stick your ear near your tip you can hear your turbine wheel spin down. As for the mileage drop I bet it was about 1.5 - 2.5 miles per gallon drop. This is all because of the winter blend fuel that is now starting to circulate around. It has more additives to keep the fuel from gelling up on ya. I know every year around this time my mileage drops by exactly 2 mpg every year. haul_n_horses |

Location: Northern Utah | Take it in to your local Ford Dealer. Have an oil change done and ask them while they are under the hood to check it out. My 2003 6.0L has had many small problems and my dealer has been very willing to look at any/all of them. |

Location: West TN | If you haven't already taken it to the dealer, check the hose that runs from the front of the engine to the turbo on the right side. It is located right in front of the battery and should be a blue rubber hose that connects the other pipes. Mine came off completely this past week and I had to put it back on after it cooled down for a half hour on the side of the road. Sometimes, the clamps can come loose and allow you to not have a good seal on this area. You will definitely hear a whistle coming from the side of the truck. Your mileage will also be compromised as well. |
