| I'm new to this forum but have stalked for years. Now, I'm here to ask a question or two of my own.
I currently own a 2004 Kiefer Built 3H Slant. I LOVE this little trailer. I know its an "economy" brand, steel frame with aluminum skin. It was and has been exceptionally maintained over the years, the floor has zero pitting and very minor oxidation. I take this trailer all over the east coast every year and have for years now showing horses. It *knock on wood* has never let me down. I did a small conversion on it. It has a 30 AMP hookup, AC/Heat and running water, no toilet or shower though.
I've been very casually looking at upgrading to a 3H with midtack or 4H slant load.
With that being said, I don't know what the better option is. I show usually 4-5 times a year, usually traveling a minimum of 300 miles one way. I can't afford anything new or fancy. I have contemplated buying a bigger, older used trailer with a budget around 20k and keeping the KB for a run around OR selling the KB and upping my budget to 35K. Whatever I do, I want it to be safe, I usually travel alone if my sister doesn't go. I do know all the things to look for in a trailer, I'm no helpless lady when it comes to that kind of thing. Lol.
I'd like to avoid Bison completely, I've known too many with nothing but issues.
If I kept the KB as my run around and buy a cheaper LQ for shows a few times a year, I'm finding Exiss, Featherlite, Sundowner (only all aluminum construction), and Harmar to be in my price range.
If I sell the KB, I'm finding everything from Platinums, 4Star, and Elite in my price range. I suppose I could also find one that doesn't have a conversion and see if a conversion company would do just the toilet/shower/holding tanks. Between myself and husband, we have and are fully capable of doing the rest of the conversion, including electric.
I can't decide what to do. My sister and I are both showing now, I am the one that owns the truck and trailer and want to keep it that way. But, having a full LQ would be amazing for shows but I am also very financially frugal so I can't decide what my next move should be. Any suggestions? | |
