Location: Allenton, Wi | I'm looking to buy my first horse trailer (2 horse BP slant load). I'm talking to two dealers who both have the same trailer with the exception that on one trailer the back door goes all the way to the top. The back door on the second trailer is open on the top. The guy with the "open" back trailer is asking more and is telling me that it's better to have an open trailer. Should one cost more and is one better than the other (why would someone want an "open" vs "closed" back door?
Thanks,
Dan |

| Howdy and welcome.
If I read and understood your post correctly one has a half rear door and the other a full rear door. Is there ANYTHING to fill the top half that is "open" ?
I'd guess the open one provides better ventilation, but I'm a little disappointed that the dealer didn't offer an explanation of WHY his is "better" than the other dealer's one. I have a really disgusting old steel trailer that has a roll-up canvas curtain over the rear ramp, sort of a neat feature, though I bet it flaps at speed. Don't worry, it is used ONLY for storage.

Location: sc | ventalation is good(the open door), being able to control it is better (plexi in back door), dont know if i would want a closed in back door without plexi and it certainly shouldnt cost more. after all its less material. what kind of trailer is it? |

Location: Allenton, Wi | The trailer is a 2005 Calico (2 hourse slant with dressing room). There are open slates on both sides. It seems that the trailer can be ordered with different back doors. This particular trailer has a round nose. It can also be ordered with a v-nose. |

Location: sc | if this is like the one youre talking about, http://www.horsetrailerworld.com/home/trailerdetail.asp?ID=45498 i believe id ask about getting plexi installed on the open top one, that way you have the option. depending on the weather. |
