Location: North Carolina | I have a Sundowner too. My divider has gotten sticky. If this is a new situation to you and the divider seems straight ... The internal and external tubes are made of aluminum. It oxidizes, wears, combines with dirt, and forms a hard paste.
Get some penetrating oil. WD-40 is nice, but there are better. Lift the end and squirt into both the top & bottom tubes. Get a rubber hammer and hammer it in, then hammer it out. Any fractional movement is the object. Oil it again and repeat. You're trying to get the oil to flow into the sticking area. It'll be messy, put rags on floor to catch drips. You don't want oil on the mats or floor.
Once you get it extended, smooth any rough surfaces and lubricate them.
Good Luck.
