Location: Mountains of NC | I can't lower my tailgate on my 2014 F-150 when its hooked to my horse trailer. I just found out there are hitch extenders to add about 12" - are these safe pulling a 2 horse steel trailer? |

| There are also varying lengths of ball mounts available. I believe I'd look for one that is long enough to let my tailgate open, without adding an entire foot. Surely you don't need a whole foot do you? |

Location: Zionsville, Indiana | Be aware the most hitch extenders are downrated to a lower capacity than you might need for a two horse trailer, the longer the extension, the lower the rating.
You could replace the tongue jack with a jack that sits further back in the tongue, or more easily, replace it with a flip up jack. The down side to setting the jack further back is that it likely would require some welding, etc. The down side to the flip up jack is that they tend to be a bit wobbley on the heavier trailers. |

To the best of my knowledge, Drawtite is a hitch manufacturer. A good one at that. But they make many products. What exactly are you asking for or about? |

Location: North Carolina | As Kay said, an extension de-rates the hitch. It also gives the trailer a longer arm (more leverage) to sway your tow vehicle.
Better to move what ever is interfering with your tailgate |
