I purchased a horse trailer from a women in NJ that stated that her trailer came with the horse. she never used the trailer therefore never registered it. The horse since past away and she sold trailer to me. A notarized letter bill of sale is all I have and DMV stated that is not enough. I am unable to registrar this trailer without finding the original owner. Unless I go thru Improper Evident with DMV which takes $150.00 and 8 weeks long. Question does anyone know how to look up perverse owners?

Anything like that will come through a government source. In some states it is the DMV, other names in other states. Unfortunately there is no central database as each state handles their own titling. You can personally contact a DMV or Clerk in each state closeby with the VIN and they can quickly tell you if there's any record of that trailer there.

Also be aware that there are several states that allow you to get titles simply with a bill of sale. Michigan is one such state, you could Simply registier the trailer in one of these states then transfer the title to your home state. There are entire Industries that have sprung up to facilitate such transfers for people who dont live in those states. I have found this is much simpler than dealing with strange title issues.
