my brother in law has a trailer with off/on battery switch, does it need to be off or on when plugged in 30 amp power pole at campsite? does this switch keep you from overcharging batteries? i'm assuming the converter charges up batteries while plugged in. Thanks, new at this.

does not matter. with it off you are only on shore power and the converter is not charging the battery. most all converters will limit the battery charging to only what it needs

Many trailers will only have lighting and 12V power available when the battery switch is "ON". As was stated, this will also maintain the batteries charging needs. With a shore cord being used, it's necessary to still power the converter for the various appliances and lighting.
