Hello everyone! I just bought my first truck and horse trailer. A package deal, the previous owner was towing it without a WDH or sway control but I would like to add a system as I'm a first time hauler.

I'm having difficulty finding a system that will work for me. It needs to be affordable (around $300?), include sway control, and allow backing up with it attached. My trailer ways 6,000 max fully loaded and I will probably never tow it that loaded.

My big issue is that I sent pictures to a trailer place and they said that my tongue was too short to add anything. I know there are adjustable systems but I'm having a hard time finding something.

I have someone competent who can put it on for me, I just need to find one.
This is my trailer

I would suggest taking it to a local trailer or RV dealer and having them assess what one would work best for you, if you have one nearby. I find our local RV dealer is often very well equipped to help out with our horse trailer problems as the closest horse trailer dealer is over two hours away. They can often special order parts you can't find normally on your own and the trailer tongue doesn't look much shorter than some travel trailers.

Unless you can find a used WD outfit that is pretty old and requires a 28" length from the center of the ball to the center of the pin, you are stuck with the 30" measurement. The adjustable part is the height on most WD kits.

Are you hauling the Trail-et or the WW w/dressing room? In the picture where the truck and trailer are hitched they look fine. During my youth years I had a dear friend that hauled a trailer exactly like the white trailer in your pictures and he never had a sway problem nor did he need a WD hitch with his 1/2 ton truck. Learn to load the heavy things over the axles or in the front of the truck bed and you'll be fine. If you find you are hauling two horses often you might even consider adding a hay rack over the axles so you can load heavy items up there. Having a fair amount of tongue weight is good for a BP trailer but not so much that the trailer frame isn't level. Enjoy the new rig and remember getting there safely with happy, relaxed horses is half the fun!

why do you want this stuff? Sway control on that trailer is would be pointless, and if you are towing it with a 3/4 ton truck you dont need to worry about WD hitches, if you are towing it with an new 1/2 ton or smaller truck then i might be a bit concerned. But i would hook it to the truck loaded like you expect and see how the rear springs look before i did anything

I would redo the floor and tires before i would worry about the WD hitch, especially if the truck and trailer came as a package and the PO was ok with it

It is a WW trailer and I am towing with a 1/2 ton truck.

I want it because it is a safety feature that makes me more comfortable towing and it appears to be standard in the RV industry but almost non existent in the horse industry.

I'm not sure why you'd mention redoing the floor and tires instead of a WDH?

Either way, floor, axles, crossmembers, tires, brakes, and jack are so new they still squeak.

Loading on most horse trailers can be somewhat variable. A slant load trailer can change the tongue weight by moving a horse to a different stall. Too high a BP hitch weight can be altered by lightening the load in the tack room. Various trailer builders vary the exact placement of their axles. Having them closer or farther to the towing vehicle will alter the tongue weights and their wheelbase lengths. Most horse trailer rigs do not need a WDH. If the trailer is improperly loaded, or if the truck is over loaded, the trailer will possibly not track properly. If your rig is set up with the correct capacities, an additional hitch aid can be unnecessary. If there is too much pin weight, a suspension aid can be installed on the towing vehicle, which will eliminate multiple WDHs if you run more than one trailer.
