Location: Northern Utah | Northern Utah was getting snow last weekend. So we traveled to Southern Utah and rode in Glen Canyon National Recreation area near Lake Powell. We rode down Coyote Gulch to Jacob Hamblin Arch. This arch was named after a early Utah pioneer that explored the area as the Mormon Church sent settlers through out the state. This is very remote, and basically a high desert area. It' is near Hole in the Rock where the pioneers disassembled their wagons and chipped steps into the canyon walls to descend into Glen Canyon and cross the Colorado River. It was a 12 mile ride down ate lunch and returned back the same way we came in. For a 24 mile day. We took 7 hours to make the ride.'We missed the trail into the canyon and just wandered until we found a hill we could descend and enter the canyonBy time we got down the area new the arch the canyon walls were pretty massive and loomed high over us. |
