Location: Bellows Falls | OK, another problem with my new 2014 Ram 2500. I had Dodge install the gooseneck hitch and the safety chain loops and they are so fat there is no way to attach the chains. so, I figured we would just go to local trailer place and buy a new clevice that would fit but they had never seen anything so wide. So, what are people using?thanks! |

Location: White Pine, TN | We've seen a lot of folks put a Quick Link under the loops. Makes installing the chains real easy and they're removable if you need a really, really flat bed. |

Location: Topeka Ks | What brand of hitch did the dealer install? Most install a B&W and the safety chain u bolts pull up. |

Location: Wisconsin | We are having the same problem. Our trailer service place finally just installed an off the shelf "shackle" because they thought the quick link wouldn't have the load capacity. Reese is the maker of this new system that RAM is using and our service place called them but they didn't have a solution. None of the even huge hooks will fit. Our RAM dealer doesn't have an answer either. The Hawk engineers say they have heard this complaint and will attempt to look into this but don't have a fix at this time. When I look at the shackle our trailer service put on, I question that weight load too. My question to this forum is: Do these add on puck modifications need to be rated to carry the whole trailer load each or can they be 4,000 lbs load each for example? When I look at Tulsa Chain Rigging's website, to get something to carry my Hawk 3 horse slant, it would cost a huge amount and the size might not work anyway. We are very frustrated and probably using a very inadequate safety mechanism. |

Location: Topeka Ks | Since you're talking about the Reese. I can tell you that the factory pucks were short and the hook wouldn't fit. I purchased these 58468 Reese Replacement Part Safety Chain Attachment for Elite Gooseneck. |

Location: Wisconsin | Ok, Perseverence Wins. Just got off the phone with Cequent Performance Products. They manufacture for Reese Hitches. The Reese rep tried to problem solve and then gave me Cequent's phone #, The rep at Cequent told me that Fulton Dealers carry a chain with a hook that will fit. The part number is CHA0070324. He said that he has a picture of the hook fitting the puck. We have a Fulton dealer within 10 miles of me here in Wisconsin. I'm heading over and will post again if this fix fails. BTW it's rated for 45000lbs! Wonder what 2 of them will set me back. . . . |

Marketing says rate the truck to tow a battleship. Legal says the safety chain loops must lift said battleship per DOT regulations. Engineering says this meets the DOT requirements. Your measly horse trailer hooks can't get around Battleship lifting lugs. |
