Location: Nebraska | I have upgraded horse trailers and while the mileage in my Ram 2500 5.7 hemi was never good, it is now very expensive to drive, averaging 7.7 mpg. I am also very close if not exceeding the GCWR when fully loaded. I am looking to upgrade to a 2014 Ram 2500 6.7 Cummins, 4x4 long box (8' bed). I cannot find any reviews on what people are getting for actual mileage on this model pulling a gooseneck or empty. The dealer tells me 18 - 20 and that I should not see much difference if pulling but that sounds a little too good to be true. I would appreciate some input from those who are actually driving this model - even if it isn't a long box or from 2013 models. Just to get me in the ballpark. Thank you in advance. |

Location: Healdsburg Ca | Ill check with my little girl. She has a 2014 6.7 . She does say it gets better MPG then her 2006 nissan frontier with a 4 cly. She pulls a LQ 3 horse classic and has a BP for short trips. |

Location: santa clara, ca | I would go to RAM specific sites or http://www.thedieselstop.com/forums/ to get some info.18-20mpg unloaded seems feasible on the freeway (we get that with our 05 Ford diesel) but loaded especially with a bigger trailer you will be in the low teens (maybe 14 max). BTW do you have a BP or GN trailer? I would anyway go for a 3500 (especially with a GN) so you will have more payload and less sag. You want however to check all the insurance/registration implications of going from 3/4 to 1 ton |

Location: Nebraska | Thank you for your reply. My gooseneck is 3 horse, 27' on the floor. The GCWR of the 2500 is 25,000 lbs. Fully loaded, I'll come in around 21,000 lbs. Most often we are not pulling full and 90% of the time, we are driving in the flatlands of Nebraska. My 2500 hemi pulls it very easily but probably shouldn't. And as mentioned, the MPG is horrible. |

Location: Mena, AR | I have a Dodge Ram 2013 1-ton 4x4 single axle crew cab long bed I've been driving for a year. On the highway staying below 65mph I can get up to 21 - 24 mpg empty. Going 70 - 80 mph I get in the 19 to 21 mpg. Towing a 3H LQ with a 23 foot box I get between 12 to 16 mpg depending mostly on how hilly and how much stopping and starting I have to do. I usually do not go over 65 mph when towing. Nice truck. |

Location: Mena, AR | Yes, the 2013 have the DEF tank. It barely uses any driving around town, but it will use up a DEF tank (5 gallons) for about every 800 miles of towing. If I am going on a long trip, I buy a box of DEF and take it with me so I don't have to look for it on the road or pay truck stop prices for it. You can get it at Wal-Mart, Sam's and auto stores for pretty reasonable. |

Or just an issue with her Cummins? |

Location: Mena, AR | I have brought up my DEF usage to the dealer several times, and they do not seem to think it is out of line.I guess I'll start keeping a log on how much I use, and do some research on DEF usage. There was nothing on expected usage in the Owners Manual. There was a recall on that truck for a software upgrade concerning the DEF, and a few other things, and it did help. It was much worst than the 800 miles before the software upgrade. I'd be interested to hear what other folks are experiencing. |

Location: Ware, MA | I own a 2006 Doge Ram 2500 with the 6 fly Cummins diesel. This is a 4 x 4 with an 8 foot bed, and the 4 door crew cab. Automatic. 135K miles on her. I do put a diesel additive into my tank when I add gas. this does add about 1-2 MPG.BUT - that being said - I get between 24-27 MPG around town. ON the Highway I only get a bit more, maybe 26-28. I use cruise and I do not set it for higher than 62. But not a lot more. I have, depending on the roads, gotten as high as 30 MPG. However, when I tow, I find that the mileage goes down. I just did a mostly highway trip with my 16 foot travel trailer. I got around 25 MPG down, but on the way back, I got around 20. On the way back we did get a tire problem, and had to stop and have one tire plugged and it was now filled with air. I run nitrogen in my tires usually, so I think the difference in fuel economy was impacted by the one tire being not synced. I have found that my fuel economy went up about 1 - 2 when I added nitrogen to my tires. I will also give one other disclaimer. I drive my truck with care. No fast starts or stops, I do not punch it, and I have been yelled at by my hubby for it. BUT, When he drives the truck, the fuel economy is 10-20% less. On the highway I always do cruise and set the speed on 65 limits at 62. I always set my cruise for one to 2 miles UNDER the speed limit. I also do not use the brake and keep resetting, I use the up and down buttons for the cruise. K hope this helps somewhat. |
