Location: Midland, MI | I have no left signal or brake light on my '01 Exiss Event SS408. My local RV place has done many repairs for me over the years. After some testing today, the service tech determined that I must have a broken wire. He then stated that he MIGHT have to "cut a hole in the floor to access the junction box". There must be an easier solution! Any advice? |

Location: Los Angeles, Ca. | Don't cut any holes yet. Start with a test light at your trailer plug-in connector and verify that you are getting voltage to the left turn pin when the signal is on. If that is good, check the trailer connector...sometime the pins just need to be pried apart a little bit in order to make better contact with the truck connector. Take cover off and check for voltage at the connector with the turn signal on. If still good, follow main wire thru the trailer and find junction box. Open and check that all wires are intact and connected. Also check that the ground wire is firmly attached to the trailer frame. You can also start at the tail light and follow it the other way, checking for voltage at each junction. Again, the ground wire needs to be properly attached to the frame. You can also swap lights with the other side to verify that it is not just the light fixture itself.
All connections should be accessible without cutting holes, but you might need to remove some small panels held in by screws or pop rivets or remove some fixtures where connections might be hiding behind.

Location: Midland, MI | Thanks so much! We did determine that the ground is good, but no power to the "yellow" wire, which is the one that feeds the left turn/brake. Gotta dig around in the nose closet tomorrow to see if I can find the junction box.

Location: Los Angeles, Ca. | Good for you...keep looking. Make sure you are getting voltage to the pin at you vehicle before you spend too much time chasing wires. |

Location: Midland, MI | FIXED! My husband took off a triangular shaped cover in the top rear street-side corner of the rear tack area. There are 2 couplers there, where wires split and go to the other side of the trailer. One of the couplers was slightly loose, causing the connection to not be completely tight (due no doubt to the horrendous conditions of our Michigan roads this winter!). A couple of zip ties had also slipped off of the couplers, so it was a quick and easy fix! Thanks to everyone for their advice. LOVE this site! |
