     Location: TN | I am sure you are all sick of this type of post, but I need some help, I took my trailer to the local CAT scale today and they would not let me unhook the trailer from the truck and just weigh it. I'm hoping if I give you the weights provided on the CAT ticket and the numbers off my truck and trailer information you can tell me if I am where I should be to be towing safely. The Truck- 2001 F 350 SRW Crew Cab 4 X 4- 7.3 PowerStroke- 3.73 rear- GVWR- 9900, Front GAWR 5200, Rear GAWR- 6830 The Trailer- 2008 Hart Medallion 4 Horse w/ 6 foot short wall LQ, 23.5' long, 6'8" wide- Hart's estimated empty weight on a similar trailer 1 foot shorter without the LQ is 5600 lbs. CAT Ticket- Steer Axle- 5640 lb., Drive Axle- 4960 lb.Do I need to find another CAT scale to use that will let me drop the trailer? Do I have enough truck for this trailer? |

        Location: North Carolina | You're slightly overweight. Was the trailer empty? If so, 4 horses & stuff will make it way worse. Front GAWR 5200, Rear GAWR- 6830 = steer axle 5640, drive axle 4960 ... 440 pounds over rating on front axle GVWR- 9900 = total weight of steer & drive axles 10600 ... 700 pounds over rating Did the scale have the trailer axles weight? that should tell you if you're over the truck's GCVWR. You didn't need to unhook for a trailer weight. Make sure your tires are in first class condition and inflation. Your truck is marginal as weighed, in my opinion |

     Location: Texas | The CAT scale here will not let us drop trailer on scale either. But we can drop trailer off in parking lot after weighing whole rig, and go re-weigh truck alone, and its just an extra couple bucks or something. .... Our 2001 like yours, but dually weighs about 8500 I think. Oh, and the combined weight rating is 20,000 |

        Location: Vermont | Is your trailer level?...it seems you've got a large amount of weight on the pin...how far ahead of the rear axle is your gooseneck connection? |

  Location: Croswell MI | Our local feed/elevator will let me drop the trailer.So I could get two weights.I think it cost me like $10.00. |

     Location: TN | The truck is a long bed so the hitch is in the standard area for that. The trailer is level and the truck is not squatting at all.       Location: Texas | I'm not really sure what we're trying to accomplish here. Why do you care what you weigh with the trailer empty? Load the trailer up like you would for your normal outing, then go weigh. And get all the info. Including trailer axle weights.
Plus, it looks like the scale operator got your axles mixed up. I don't see how you could be over your front GAWR.
I wouldn't worry about being a little over the GVWR or GCWR. But I would be a little concerned about being over the rear GAWR. |
