I know next to nothing about tires. I bought a 2001 Calico 2 horse slantload stock trailer with tack room and the tires are rotted. The tire on the trailer is a 225/65/16 but I called the manufacturer and they currently use 235/80/16ST but said they didn't know for sure if that was the recommended tire for the age of my trailer. So before a spend a ton of money please advise me what tire I need to get. I plan to haul a 300lb mini and pony cart. I may haul a friend's 15.1 stock horse. I don't do a lot of hauling. An occasional show and picnic drive so figure once a weekend in the summer.
My opinion I would get a set of LT225X75R16 or LT235X85R16 10 ply tires. The 225 is a little shorter about the size you have now and the 235 is about 1" taller. I just sold a trailer about like you have and I bought a set of Firestone LT225x75r16 10ply tires that worked really well on it. The size you listed that is on the trailer now are Ford F-150 type tires and I believe only a 6 ply rating.
+1 Almost any manufacturer of those LTs will work for you...
