Location: Cincinnati | So we are looking for trailers and came across a 95 sundowner. I saw issues with rusting of the frames and when we looked at this one we saw rusting. I just wanted to show a couple shots and see what others had to say. Here are a few pics:
This is on the inside of the trailer along the bottom wall near the rear:
This is the outside under the wheel arch where you can begin to see the rusting: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Byrsc_zBwqUQRzNuTkRqeUlxTms/edit?usp=sharing
Here's a look deeper into the wheel well: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Byrsc_zBwqUQbUt6QnczeWNib1E/edit?usp=sharing
Is this more or less cosmetic? Or should it be something to be legitimately concerned with?

Ditto. Unless you are well versed in welding and have cheap access to materials, that is a trailer to avoid. |

| Just a 20 year old all steel trailer, that from the Cinci note, has also been up north. Looks like what I'd expect. Maybe you need to shop newer. |

Location: Arkansas | I have a 95 Sundowner 2 horse steel, and it does not have any of those issues.... but it lives below the Mason Dixon, not out in the salt/ chemicals of northern areas.... |

Location: Cornfield in Iowa | I just sold my 95 Sundowner all steel last weekend. I have owned it since 1998 and I live in Iowa. It looks brand spanking new compared to that. |

Location: Valentine, NE | Depending on price and your skills, might be worth a shot. I did one that was rusted out like this a few years ago. Just took angle iron that wraped under the existing angle iron, with the top being back into the sheet metal enough to get out the rust. $300 of steel, $30 of paint and welding rod, a day later, looked fine on the outside. Still could see rusted sheet on the inside. But for this ranch trailer, worked fine.
Be honest with yourself on your welding/fabrication skills as it is a lot cutting and fitting...
Good luck. |
