I currently have a 10 gallon tank in my trailer.  If I wanted to replace it with a 6 gallon one, is the part that fits in the square opening still the same size so I could do that?  Hope this isn't a totally stupid question.....

If we are talking about the "normal" RV type LP heaters, the cutout is larger for the 10 gallon unit. Will not be able to drop a 6 straight in without some custom fabrication work.

We're thinking of adding water to our trailer. Why do you want to change from a 10 gallon to a 6?

Just wondering if you could do that. A friend had asked me and I had no idea if the part that fits in the opening is the same size on a 6 and a 10.
