I'm considering becoming a travel nurse. I have 1 horse. A 2H slant w/ 2ft short wall that I am converting into a small LQ. I only plan to travel between TX and AZ. Anyone have any experience with this and any advice?

A 2 ft SW will allow space enough for an overnight or two at a time, but certainly not enough room for a "live in" LQ. If you are contemplating a continual living arrangement with no other resources, you will be drastically under sized. I would seriously consider an upgrade to a larger unit if you have the towing capabilities.

That's what I was afraid of. I also would be traveling w/a German shepherd. At least I could up the insulation w/ her shedding fur! :) someone talked me out if a full LQ trailer... Shouldn't have listened. Thanks for the response.

Most contracts for traveling RNs give a housing allowance. I knew a husband wife team that took that and bought a nice motor home. This may be the time you want to upgrade. Travelers usually do well financially and some contracts even give a bonus for finishing. All in all, you could get a bigger set up and the interest can be tax deductible the same as a house. I agree with Gard, you have a nice weekender but not something you would want to live in for a few months or longer.

Tax deductible? That's music to my ears! That was one of the things I thought I'd miss out on by not owning a home. I'll look into that. Don't really want an RV, but maybe a nicer LQ would count if it was my prary residence. Thanks!

Check with your tax accountant. You may find that your equipment as well as your various traveling expenses are deductable, and you can also depreciate the value of your towing rig. It does not have to be a primary residence to be able to write off your expenses in a business.
