Location: SK | I recently purchased an 05 Elite living quarters trailer, I was told it was only hauled a half dozen times and I believe the person, just wondering how often the wheel bearings should be repacked, I have hauled it about 1600 miles since I bought it , I believe it has 8000 # axles, could they be oil bath bearings |

Repacking also gives you a good inspection of the bearings and races. I would repack knowing that the bearings spent a lot of time sitting still, as that can create a kind of damage called false brinelling. Plus it's worth checking to see what brand of bearings is installed, as many trailers have cheap no-name Chinese or Romanian bearings, and I personally will always swap that junk out for Timken brand or similar. |

Location: Topeka Ks | Welcome to the forum!It is possible that Elite installed Dexter Nev-R-Lube bearings. I wouldn't think you have oil bath bearings on 8k axles but if the customer wanted they would build it.Now to answer your question, my opinion is at a minimum repack the bearings once a year when you inspect your brakes. Now things to consider for more frequent repacking: running in a lot of rain, jack knife turnarounds running in extreme heat. There may be others but there not coming to mind. |
