Could anybody tell me if there is a big difference in strength between 8 bolt wheels and 6 bolt wheels and is it possible to have 6 bolt wheels and 6,000 lb axles? Thanks!

Yes there is a difference and I don't believe there is an offering.

Not sure about the "strength" difference between the 6 and 8 lug wheels.  Most wheels will have the weight stamped on the inside of the back of them.  Yes it is possible to have a 6000lb axle with 6 lug wheels...  I have a 2000 model PJ car trailer with 2-6-k axles and it came stock with 6 lug 15" wheels.  I just upgraded to 16"- 6 lug wheels last year since 15" tires are getting hard to find.
