Location: MS | It doesn't seem like my brakes on the trailer are working. The green light on the box is on, so there is power to it, but I can manually engage them and it doesn't feel like anything is happening. The color of the light on the box never changes from green. Is there anything I can do myself to try and fix this or do I need to haul it somewhere. |

Location: Tenn/Ala. | Check the gain control. It controls the maximum output to the brakes, and if it is turned down you'll have no/little output. Without knowing your controller, can't help to tell you where it is.
The Tekonsha Voyager 9030 has a light like you describe, the gain on it is on the right side, a turn wheel. |

Location: Ocala, Fl | Is it possible that the factory installed brake controllers don't work on the older trailer brakes? In my case brakes work perfectly between truck and 2012 Lakota trailer but recently purchased a 1997 Featherlite and the brakes work on a little with the truck setting at max. To check I pulled the emergency cord and the brakes would stop the truck and trailer at slow speed. I'm at a loss to explain. |

If you appear to have no trailer brakes...as stated, up the gain wheel and try stopping the trailer with just the trailer brakes...But another thing you should check is your break-away battery engagement...if it won't engage the trailer brakes...then either it's battery is bad or you have a problem with your trailer bakes....:( |

Location: MS | The box is a Tekonsha (sp) Voyager. There is a wheel on the left side. I will try adjusting that, but I thought I had...maybe I just THOUGHT I did.If the battery is dead in the emergency brake cable box, would that have effect on the brakes?

Location: Lander WY | the breakaway battery is only activated when the cable is pulled. It is very common to adjust your gain control -each- time you pull the trailer. As the weight changes in the trailer or tow vehicle you may need to adjust the controller.

If the battery that drives the emergency brakes is dead...you will have no brakes if you suffer a trailer disconnect...but if that battery is good and you still have no brakes when you pull the pin...it points to bad wiring or bad brakes... |

Location: MS | Well, I hauled the trailer in to have the brakes checked. It turned out to be a sort of bizarre set of circumstances. I had forgotten that the connector was an adapter. It has been on there so long it never occurred to me. The pin for the brake from the adapter to the original cord had been pushed back into the adapter. You couldn't see it unless it was taken off. That fixed the right side, but the left side brakes still weren't working. Mechanic jacked the trailer up and found a wad of fishing line wrapped around the axle had cut the wires to the brakes! He took that off, fixed the wires and I have brakes again. Such unusual things can happen! |
