Location: CT | Traveling a few hours from ct to ma tomorrow to purchase used horse trailer. Getting temp plates seems crazy complicated. Don't want to make two trips (one to purchase, second trip with plate).
It's been suggested that I borrow a plate and use that to get the trailer home and deal with proper registration when trailer is home.
Anyone else dealt with a similar situation, and what did you do?
Thank you. |

Location: Texas | I bought a trailer in CA, I'm in TX. She signed off the title, and I drove home. Got to TX, and went in and got it registered and a plate. Since I bought from a private party in CA, I did not pay tax. Had a bought from a dealer, I would have paid tax in CA. When I got to TX, they collected tax on the purchase price listed on bill of sale. |

Location: CT | So you drove it with no plate at all?
I'm assuming you didn't get stopped?
Thank you. |

Location: Texas | I think it had the CA plate on it, but had it not, I would have driven with no plate, paper work on the ready. But each state may be different. And, some do not even have plates on trailers. Go figure, eh? |

Location: TN | Can you go to a notary local to where you are purchasing the trailer and get a temporary tag? |

Location: AZ | In AZ, you can keep your plates on any vehicle when you sell it. So, the bill of sale/title is the 'plate' for 3 days. |

Hubs is not happy about it, but Going to use the old plates for the trailer.
Hope it goes well.

Location: Texas | Make sure all the lights work perfect etc. to not give them an excuse to pull you over. I'd be more worried about getting pulled over with plates that are from another trailer than no plates at all and bill of sale in hand. |

Location: Rayne, LA | I bought a truck out of state. I was told by police that as long as I had proof of insurance and a notorized bill of sale that it is legal within three days of bill of sale date to drive back. Here in Louisiana individuals can not get temp tags. |
