dh and i have secured a summer camp on the pond and are looking for where we want to spend the winters.

at this point i'll leave the horses here while we explore, but since we'll be buying a new camper i want to consider a horse trailer with lq for future living.

we're selling the farm and everything which won't fit into a small storage unit--why i feel i must store my mom's lamps is besides me, but that's another story for later.

dh also wants to bring his jeep--the extra long wrangler rubicon so for now the horse trailer section will be stripped of mangers and slants etc.

when the time comes to haul the horse he'll have to drive his jeep wherever we go.

i'd like a shorter living space with slideouts for more comfort when stationary, as i think we'll park and explore for a month or two before moving on.

meanwhile i have a 2001 f350 dually diesel 4x4 with 45 thousand miles i hope will be enough truck for a new rig.

hopefully i don't also have to upgrade the truck!

i'll be trading in my 2002 hawk custom gooseneck and 2002 f350 4x4 single rear wheel with 195 thousand miles so have a bit of wiggle room i suppose.

i know mid nineties sundowners had problems, i'm looking for a well built rig which will be a workhorse and hold it's value.

maybe hawk again---will have to see who does their conversions, as i don't care to spend on cowboy themed wallpaper and pine cabs are just as nice as cherry--and i prefer to buy my own bed and recliners etc.

and i thought getting the house ready to sell would be the hard part!

I don't know if I can say this on here. Check out Escapees.

lol, why not? the escapees are a great group and i actually have a personal connection to them, as my parents were original members way back in the seventies.

most escapees don't also have horses so i thought here i'd find some horse savvy folks who 'get' traveling with horses.

thank you for your reply!

Remember to do your VET work on your horses BEFORE you travel...make sure you get them ALL the shots that are available......Not only is a negative EIA test required for entry into all 50 states, it must be performed at an accredited laboratory (your veterinarian will know which laboratories are accredited). Your veterinarian will also be able to tell you if your destination state requires this test be performed within 12 months of entry, within 6 months or, for states like Wisconsin, within the calendar year.

Any of the major high end brands should suit you. I suggest that you make sure it is lifted up a few inches so you won't bottom out. I have seen people towing cars and other things behind their horse trailer. I am not brave enough for that, but it has been done. If you stay with a three horse and no bigger than a 12 or 14 LQ your truck should work out just fine. You might want to consider a 12 foot with a mid-tack, and the slide out. The slide out sure add a lot of room to the LQ. I focus on the bathroom layout. Make sure it suits you, and you are not have to step over or around things in it since you will be living in it. I love the idea of you hitting the road full time! Sounds like a whole lot of fun.
