| Looking for my first GN LQ trailer, and I found a deal on a 4star, just wondering what your thoughts are on it being a good deal? $20K, 1995 4 Star, 3 horse, 18ft short wall outlaw LQ, mid-tack, rear tack, mangers, generator, hayrack, new wheels/tires/brakes/bigfoot hyd jack. Needs TLC in and out. Thoughts?? |

| I'll try to get pics soon. I'll be pulling with a one ton ford diesel. Towing and size aren't a concern, I've been towing for years, and currently have a 40ft toyhauler fiver. I just don't want to pay $70K+ for what I'd like to have. |

Location: Rayne, LA | Is a toy hauler lighter than a horse trailer? I have a 40ft trailer and pull with a dually and bought a bigger truck to pull in the mountains. The trailer doesn't sound like a bad deal if it is in good shape inside, underneath, brakes, springs,lights, etc, but things are only worth what someone will pay for them. |

| Yeah, the toyhauler is lighter for sure. It's GVWR comes in at 14k lbs, just about 11.5k lbs empty. The GVWR on this horsey unit is just over 18k. I'm going to test tow it and take it to a scale to get an empty weight. I suspect it to be only slightly heavier empty (than the fifth wheel) as the cargo capacity is much more of a priority in these horse trailers. |

HT axles are much further back and all of the LQ weight is up front, back of the HT is just an empty box, add the horses and the pin doesn't get any lighter. You got air bags on that Ford? | I added air bags and a rickson on board air compressor when the toyhauler was purchased for the same reason. Toyhauler axles, although not as much as horse trailers, have a greater axle set back as well. I never really used them as cargo would generally counter balance the pin weight. I can definately see where they will be useful with a horse trailer. Until now its just been a really expensive air horn set up! |
