My trailer didn't come with wall pads in the horse compartments. I have had it for 10 years and never had a problem, but this year I decided that my horse needed them. Yep, spoil that horse! So, I started shopping around for ready made ones. It seems that all of them are vinyl with 2 inch foam pads, but the kicker is it also seems that all of them have a cardboard backing! I never removed pads from any of my previous trailers, but just assumed that the backing was plywood. I ordered some ready made pads, and guess that I will supplement the backing myself with plywood since the ready mades were cheaper than I could make them myself. Has anyone noticed this before? Has anyone made them from scratch? It would seem to be easy enough if you don't have to stitch them like the ready mades are. But having just bought vinyl for doing the LQ in another trailer, I know it is costly, as is the foam.

What I was asking about are the foam pads that go on the divider and maybe the wall. The trailer already has thick rubber on the walls, but no padding of any kind on the divider.

Sounds easy enough to do. Use maybe 5/8ths plywood, cut out rectangles, and curve the corners round. Figure the attachment spots and drill the wood and metal of the divider to match. Put the carriage bolts into the plywood, ( carriage bolts have heads that are round),then sprayment some dense foam to the wood, and cover over with vinyl or even leather. ( Whooo-Hooo! Leather? Mucho Costo!) Put the pads onto the dividers. ( Just a note, if you drill the attachments into the tubing that supports the divider, you can put the nuts onto the protruding bolts behind the wall of the tubing, and not have bolts and nuts sticking out)Orrrr use self drilling screws through the wood and into the tubing walls.

I just received the ready made pads that I ordered. Oh, my goodness! How cheap they are made. When I heard that the backing was cardboard, they were SO right! It is no more than cardstock! And I thought that there were grommets in the edges to put screws and there aren't. Guess I have to do that too.
