Location: Maine | I am looking to replace my 2007 Chevy Silverado I have replaced the front left wheel bearing SIX times in the last two years. Three different mechanics can't tell me why it's blowing through these wheel bearings. I am sick of buying new tires and worried I am going to be stuck somewhere with a trailer and horses... not going GM again... also I am not interested in the F150 because I can't afford the crew cab, and I hate those suicide back doors on the extended cabs I am considering a 2012 Toyota Tundra with the big 5.7L 381HP engine, rated to haul 10K#. (100% USA built) I have a 2008 Trail-et Westwind 2-horse GN, I believe the empty weight is in the vicinity of 4500#. Pros? cons? My husband insists I need the HD off-road rear end. Yes? A waste of $$? I do not do any volunteer off-roading. Thanks for your valuable input! |

Location: MD | I pulled a borrowed basic 3H GN with my 2011 Tundra double-cab before ordering a new 2H that I plan to put a weekend package in to. Tundra's do a great job with ~24' trailer's. I had a Roadmaster Active Suspension put in to help get me to 2000# payload but that was because I had 4WD (reduces payload) and wanted to support the weekender stuff. The below threads have a lot of Tundra feedback in them. http://www.horsetrailerworld.com/forum/thread-view.asp?threadid=17119 http://www.horsetrailerworld.com/forum/thread-view.asp?threadid=16925

Location: Maine | Thanks for the input, everyone. I checked out the other threads and the link to the Toyota towing forum. Great information. One of the options that I can have is swaybars. Stupid, greenie question: Will sway bar help with a gooseneck or are they just used with a BP? |

Location: santa clara, ca | You should be fine, but make sure that the pin weight of the trailer doesn't "legally" overload the truck.

What kind of loads are you hauling and at what speeds?Since those bearings cannot be lubed, if you get them overly hot, they'll fail. |

Location: Corpus Christi, Texas | I have a 2010 Tundra. I recently, after a long search, bought a 1998 Elite 2 horse gooseneck. Empty wt @ 3900 lbs. I have not pulled it much as yet..I don't trailer here in the summer unless it is absolutely necessary.. I had no trouble pulling it on the 8+ hour drive home..My truck felt better and got better gas mileage pulling my gooseneck, than it did pulling my nose-heavy Hart BP. |
