Location: western PA | An 18' BP steel stock combo cost us ~$3000 to restore about seven years ago. It was totally media blasted inside and out, including the wheels and frame for $975. The paint materials were ~$1100. I worked on it every day for two weeks, but the cost of labour for painting it in an enclosed structure and welding was another $1000. My labour saved our out of pocket expenses almost another $1000. The wooden floor was pristine and needed no repairs, the roof had rust holes at every rib. The paint materials included Ospho, an epoxy primer and a single part automotive urethane paint. I already had the sanding tools and various grades of sand paper. It looked good for about a year, then the rust started again, at the hinges and most moving parts that damaged the new paint. It was the last of several steel horse trailers that we have owned. Every one we have had, has needed a respray and restoration. |
