I am new here and to  towing.

I have a 1999 Ford F150 Ext Cab 139" wb 4x4 with a tow capacity of 7700 lbs. It has a class IV hitch , and brake controller.

I will be towing a 2002 Hawk 2 horse bp Classic with no dressing room. Weight is about 2770 lbs empty and 2 horses will add about 2200 more lbs plus some equipment , not much no dressing room . The Hawk is the wider and taller one 80" interior width and i think 76" interior high. 15' 6" is the overall length up to the front of the hitch.

So my question is ,can I pull this with my truck with regular ball hitch or do I need a weight distribution hitch?

Thanks

Hi and welcome! Yes, you could pull with your truck, BUT, a wdh will make the trailer experience much safer and more enjoyable. It will help stop the sway on the highway, and the "tail wagging the dog" effect. I tow my 2 horse classic westerner with my 97 Dodge 1/2 ton, and with the hitch it is not a problem.

The person i am purchasing the used Hawk trailer from is now including the WDH that she used on her SUV to tow the trailer. So I guess this is the hitch i will try.
