Location: Waverly,Oh | I sure could use some help troubleshooting my hot water tank problems. the unit is a [gas only] Suburban model SW6D, I open the valve on the NEW tank of gas I turn the hot water tank swith to the "on" postion The red light comes on In a few seconds , the ignighter starts clicking and the nice blue flame comes on the ignighter shuts off and the flame goes out, this sequence is repeated with same results. the unit worked fine when I winterized the system back in OCT 2011 any help would would be appreciated

Location: Richmond, Ky | My water heater is the electric kind, but I can tell you what I do know about gas, and once the flame is lit, something needs to tell the gas valve that you have flame...i.e. thermocouple, proof of flame sensor, check and make sure it's not bad or might have been hit and not "seeing" the flame.....good luck |

Location: Waverly,Oh | from what I read on line, the igniter doubles as a sensor. It said it sends a mili-amp signal to the control board indicating the flame was on. |

Location: Rayne, LA | Try using an air compressor and blowing thru the burner area. Also make sure the sensor/ignitor is free of obstrustion and trash. |

Location: Georgia | Did you happen to leave the bypass valve open? If it was left open from when you winterized, it will cause the water heater to constantly shut off. |

Location: Waverly,Oh | Well I want to thank you for your advice. I got it working. 1.I cleaned out the heat chamber [not much in there but there was a little] 2. I cleaned the igniter/sensor with emory 3. I repositioned the igniter/sensor so it was more directly in the flame. I took right off the first try and has been working good since. We are ready to go again thank you for your help |

However if the leaking might be caused by a weakened junction from one from the joints which are generally unfastened or simply used up, you may simply repair it through sometimes tightening up the joints or switching the broken down bolts without bringing about an excessive amount of expense on correcting this problem. You may possibly not desire to see it still actually tiny hot water boiler spills might quickly contribute to greater complications. Fire and various hazardous smoke at a boiler seeping may well initiate another threat for you and your folks. |
