Location: HARTLAND MI | On my Exiss 400 gooseneck I have two spare tires, to save space I was going to run a 3/4 pipe under the overhang supported with two bearing pillow blocks. I was then going to attach a steel cable to it with a plate over the hub opening of the two spares. Then I can wind them up to the floor of the overhange and there is clearence to turn the truck. If the cable broke some how they would fall into the bed of the truck. I can weld a plate on the one end of the shaft and have a lock to prevent theft, The other side would have a socket for a handle to crank them down if needed. Any thoughts on this idea? |

Location: Northern Utah | You must have a flat bed, Because there sure isn't room on mine for a tire under the gooseneck to fit above my bed rails when I turn. If you have room, I say go for it. |

Location: western PA | Many trucks, mini vans and SUVs have a cable opperated winch mechanism, that lifts and holds their spare tires against the bottom of the vehicles' floors. A check of your local wreck yard might produce the items you are considering, with considerably less development time. |

Location: HARTLAND MI | Thanks, devolopment is the fun part for me. I was worried maybe the extra weight might not me good pushing on the bed. However I will double check the clearence between the truck and trailer |

Location: Missouri | I would definitely have some kind of safety catch for it in case the cable broke. Several years ago, I had the spare tire hanger cable snap on my one ton, lucky for me it broke as I was pulling into my garage. After that I ran a piece of chain up and over the frame support to catch the tire if the cable broke. |
