We are looking at purchasing a generator for our LQ. We like the Hondas..specifically the 3000i. Anyone have one of these?

Would you upgrade your generator so that you have more than enough power of go with a lesser size, like the 2000?

Also, who actually uses their roof AC? We are looking at the 3000i since it can handle the AC but we will more than likely hardly ever use it out camping since we try to go places that are cooler than Phoenix in the summer.

Thanks.

I bought an Exiss used out of Montana last fall and it had a 4000 watt honda gen set with remote start. Gen is mtd on trailer hay rack..  gen weighs 300#, It is overkill as it can run two air conditioners at at the same time. I would buy the 3000 , as I believe it to me much lighter, and probably a little more quiet. my 2 cents worth...

I have a Yamaha EF2400is   It is 70lbs so about 1/2 the weight of the Honda 3000.

It will run the A/C on my trailer. Although I rarely need a/c at the elevations that I camp.

It will not run multiple appliances at the same time. ie.  I need to turn off the A/C before I can use the Microwave.

If you are going to permanently mount it and want to run multiple appliances get at least the Honda 3000.  The Honda 2000 won't start up your A/C unless you have two units running parallel.

The 3000 is a great generator, I have two Honda 2000 generators that run togeather for a total of 4000 watts.  The thing I prefer about this set up is that the 2000's are light and can be carried about anyplace you want.  Moving the 3000 is usually a two person job.

I have the two Honda 2000s in parallel. Runs everything for me. I went ahead and purchased an extended fuel tank too. This is awesome. Wish I had electric/remote start but the pull on my 2000s is easy. I went with this set up because I can handle the moving and set up by myself. They only weigh approximately 47lbs each.

If you perform a SEARCH under "generator" for the last half or full year, you will find numerous threads about this favourite subject.

The twin-setup of a pair of Honda EU2000i units is pretty popular. You typically only need to run a single unit if you don't need A/C. As others have said, the light weight (47 lbs.) makes these easy to move and load.

Back at home, having two generators can help out other friends or family if the power goes out.

FYI, you would get a standard EU2000i and a special second model called the Honda EU2000i Companion and the parallel cable kit. The kit connects the two generators together so you get a full 4,000 watts of peak power from the one big outlet on the Companion. The kit also has an adapter that converts the standard twist-lock outlet to an RV-style.

Caveat: I work for Honda, but the preceding was my opinion alone.

I've got the 3000 and love it except for the weight. I typically load it in the back of my truck in the spring and leave it there until fall. I keep it safe with two (supposedly) uncutable cables. I do wish I had a pair of 2000's because in most cases I don't need the 3000 and the porability would be nice.

I have a 5500 watt genset on the farm in case of a power outage.

I have the Honda 3K mounted and chained in the back of my truck, it never comes out. Its actually too small at times (real hot and AC wont start, or running AC and wanting to nuke some food) my next will be a honda 6K left in the back of the truck

Thanks for all of your insights. We are going to go with the 2000 model with the intention of expanding to another 2000 as needed.

Sometimes it depends on your trailer. We bought a new Honda 3000 and it would not start our roof AC at all. We took it back and they swapped it out for a Yamaha 4500. Love it. Runs everything at once. Yes its bulky but on wheels. I roll it in and out of 1st slant in the trailer. Cant put it in back of truck due to my auxilliary fuel tank. Our trailer has a heat pump so I guess that had something to do with the wattage needed to crank it up. I think they have an extra cooling fan. Anyhow, the Honda 3000 will not crank all AC's, and it states that in the info.

A heat pump is nothing but an A/C that has the capability to reverse itself and instead of blowing hot air outside and cold air inside switching the direction it transfers heat. When it gets to a certain temperature outside, the compressor turns off and electric resistance heat ( same as a non heat pump ) turns on automaticaly. Because of the compressor running in heat and cool  the condensor ( outdoor ) fan runs in heat and cool any time the compreesor is running in order to transter heat.
