How do I determine the brake assy for my 4Star trailer?  Does the VIN # have anything to do with it?  I was just quoted a price locally from a tire place that I felt was a bit over the top! Thought I would check out the Internet prices. Thanks.

What make and size axles do you have? Dexter, Alko, 6000#, 7000#, 8000#? Remember, when ordering backing plate assemblies, there is a "right" side and a "left" side....  Here are some prices for parts for comparison.... http://www.dexteraxle.com/parts_store_ http://www.etrailer.com/dept-pg-Trailer_Brakes.aspx http://www.easternmarine.com/Electric-Trailer-Brake-Assemblies/ http://www.anythingtruck.com/commercial/electric-brake-assemblies.mv http://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/rv-wheel-covers/electric-trailer-brake.htm

OK so a friend's husband said to look on the axle which should have a metal plate with size and manufacturer...didn't see it.  Perhaps behind the hub?

Model Number, Part Number and Serial Number Model, part and serial numbers are located on a plate in the middle area of the axle.
* Axles built before 4/1/93 have the serial number stamped into the beam near the I.D. plate.

Do you have a BP or gooseneck, and how many horses? With 15" tires I would think you would use the 10" brakes. That is what I use on my trailer with two 3500lb axles.
