I have a 2000 Tahoe w/ a 5.4L engine and a WDH on it. I have been towing a brenderup -which tows easy. I have had MOST of this trailer rebuilt at one time or another.

However, last nite we found out that we have an issue w/our ramp. Combine that w/ my new horse not liking ramps much, and the fact that we were planning on buying a 3h next summer when we move to Wa. and we're thinking about cutting to the chase and buying a 3h now.

However, I'm not sure what is safe to pull w/ this vehicle - we had ALSO been planning on buying a 250 size deisel truck. However, I just can't swing that easily right now.

Have been looking at the Shadow 3h stock/combo type trailers.

Pulling initially would be just 1 not very big horse, and in Houston (e.g. FLAT!).

If anybody has info on stuff like hitch weights on these that would be helpful too...nobody seems to have specs online for this stuff.

One advantage of a 3H SL BP trailer, is that by placing various numbers of horses in different stalls, it's possible to better balance the load. This results with the trailer's axles carrying most of the weight and the pin or tongue weight being more nominal.

This is only attainable by choosing a trailer that has axle placements nearer to the center of the frame. The best arrangement will have the middle stall centered over the axles. Here's a few trailers with this configuration:

Trailers with axles placed more to the rear of the frame, will place a higher loading on the tongue and hitch. With horses loaded and a frontal tack area full, the tongue weights can be substantial. They will require auxilliary weight distribution hitches to maintain a proper level towing vehicle. Some examples of this configuration are:

A mid sized vehicle can safely tow a properly set up 3H BP trailer. We did it for several years using an Expedition.
