Location: Minnesota | Welcome to the forum. I also ive in the Austin area.If you are buying a steel trailer, I would think rust will be a problem wherever you go. There are also many aluminum two horse trailers available. Most of us in Minnesota have to park our trailers in the winter because there really isn't a lot of places to go.As far as a good dealer, I have bought three trailers from Denny's Trailer Sales in Wykoff, MN. Talk to Denny or Sean. Joey in the shop is the tops for service. Give them a call and tell them I recommended them. By the way, I don't work for them, just a satisfied customer. There is also Arena Trailer Sales in Cannon Falls and Keuhn Motors right in Austin, |

Location: western PA | Living in a snow belt area is similar to my abode in the rust belt. Steel trailer ownership requires a lot of maintenance in these areas. I agree with Genebob and would highly recommend an aluminum trailer. Having owned trailers of both construction, and having had to restore three of the steel horse trailers, I would not now choose any steel constructed horse trailer. I presently have several other trailers of steel construction, and all are rusty and ugly. They are all awaiting major attention, while my aluminum trailers need very little upkeep. Aluminum costs more to purchase, costs less to own, and has a high resale value after years of ownership. In the long run, aluminum is less expensive to own and maintain, in my part of the country. It also affords a high degree of pride of ownership, by not being rust streaked, having holes in the bodywork, and wondering about the security of the undercarriage. |

| I'd look to see if a trailer or car was from an arid climate that doesn't put mag chloride or other such product on the road. Personally, I'd prefer a trailer from Austin to one in Minnesota if it was in an area where they use the corroding materials on the road. Since parts of my state started using the awful stuff, the rust problem is noticeably different - just terrible. Aluminum doesn't rust, of course. |
