The fire was started by faulty wiring to a water cooler??? I'm confused. Glad all were safe though.

Wouldn't surprise me to see someone install an electric water cooler, aka drinking fountain in a DIY trailer. I am surprised we don't see more trailer fires from some of the DIY and low budget conversion. I know I have walked away from a few questionable trailers for sale.

This trailer fire was apparently not a DIY but a reputable local dealer installing an aftermarket horse trailer vertical water tank and pump, not a "cooler". Trying to get the exact brand now. Similar to product shown here: http://www.horsetraileraccessorystore.com/water_acc.htmI bet the ground wire was shorted, conducting heat, burning off its cover, then the material around it. The first "smoke" seen was white (steam) as the plastic tank melted and the water hit the hot metal and/or drained off. Then after the water boiled and drained off, the metal wire continued to heat and ignited other materials. When the trailer door was finally opened, the incoming air ignited the hay and the inferno escalated. Luckily the driver noticed the white smoke (steam) and was quick to respond. A 14 year old girl rushed in to unhook the horse, who had kept his head low to get fresh air. The fire escalated and smoke turned black as plastic tank parts, plastic trunk, and hay combustion mixed.
