With so many vehicles coming with back up cameras installed with in dash monitors. The challenge becomes finding a way to integrate a 2nd or 3rd camera to work with the factory system.

I have bought a license plate camera that I want to install on my GN trailer. But I've been dragging my feet on cutting into my trucks wiring harness.

It is much cheaper to by it on EBAY as single pieces. I paid $55 per camera and $79.95 for a color monitor cabling ran about 50.00. I run a 1500 watt inverter under passenger seat, this powers up the camers and monitor plus our cell phones and laptops. I made a connection point at the gooseneck so unhooking from trailer is simple. Also the camera's are color for day time and IR for night time, the monitor is also color. I ran electrical conduit under the trailer and was able to bring it up inside a wall ion my 4 horse kiefer. I have one camera for front stud area and one covering the back 3 stalls. The moniter is mounted on a shaved down 2X4 that fits in a cup holder on the console so I can remove it when not needed.  Steve

Steve What wire did you, Anything special about video wire?

Can you cut the video plug off the wire and splice it together for a longer length?

I need to do some homework to figure out how this stuff goes together

Painted horse-- Yes you can solder --found out the hard way-- you can buy the cables pre made in differant length's or check with radio shack about making them up. The wire is a 2 conductor--24--26 gauge wire--very small-- one has a video connectio [bf 59] ? the other a male, female 12 volt connection.  Also the moniter needs 2 video inputs and don't go smaller than 7 inch, it makes easier viewing. I may be able to get you Ebay #'s for camera and moniter or snap a couple of pic's-- you can email me at cuc_steve@hotmail.com  Thank's Steve

My truck has the built in Navigation with the back up camera monitor. So the real challenge is cutting into the Ford Factory wiring and placing some type of relays that will turn off one camera and turn on the second camera.

The Ford Wiring harness has 6 wires.  VPWR, Video+, Video-. Sheild, Gnd, and Gnd . The cameras seem to come with two wires ( Pwr and Video)  I just need to talk to somebody with more electrical/video experience than I who can tell me which wire go where in the relay. I figure I can just use one of the Upfitter switches built into the Ford dash to enable or disable the relay.

I just need to go out and do it, But I just hate cutting into the factory wiring harness and messing some other wiring up.
