We have a circa 1983-1985 (the truck is currently parked at my brother house so I can't look at it to see exact year) GMC Suburban 3/4 ton with a 454 gas engine. We ordered it new specifically for towing a horse trailer so it has the factory tow package. My brother has been taking care of this truck for years, he says it is rated to tow 12,000 lbs.For years I towed a 2 horse straight load Turnbow with a huge dressing room. I'm wondering now if I can safely use this truck to pull a 3 horse stock-combo trailer (w/ 3 horses) and gear. What do you all think?AND what length of stock trailer would comfortably fit 3 horses, they are 14.3hh, 16hh and a hair under 15hh. Would we want a 16' or longer?Thank you in advance for your help.

People used those rigs to pull trailers when they new. If it is well taken care of, I'm sure it is still capable of pulling a trailer today.

Will you want an equalizer hitch?  Probably.

Will you need to watch the hitch weight on the bumper? Yes.

But if you stay within the  vehicles specs, It should pull a 3H trailer just fine. Especially across the flat lands of Texas.

Yes...but it will stress all those old parts on that Suburban when towing...also, check the brakes before YOU go towing...
