Location: Wisconsin | I have a 4 ft shortwall (not finished) 4 horse horse trailer to register (live in WI). The DMV was not clear on if I could license it as farm or have to license as a trailer. Can anyone help? Will be pulling to barrel shows around the area, not every weekend. Can I register the trailer as farm?? |

Location: Missouri | Unless you find someone on here from Wisconsin, all other advice is going to be nill. Every state's registration requirements are going to be slightly different. Take MO for example. If my trailer had a king pin hitch, I can buy permanent plates for it and never have to renew again. But the catch is the plate price is six times the normal and you can never transfer the plate, it dies if you sell the trailer. Other wise in our state a trailer plate is a trailer plate not difference between the use of the trailer. You'll need to dive into your states statues to determine this. |

Location: TEXAS | There are alot of people that do it in texas to get around the sales tax and cheaper registration. But a guy I ride with got pulled over by a DPS officer and got a ticket for improper use of farm tags, which ended up getting fined for tax evasion, had to pay the sales tax, penalties, interest. He got run through the ringer on it. The Farm tag rules are pretty clear here, lots of people stretch them and get away with it. Just not worth it, he ended up paying over five times what he would have ended up paying the sales tax in the beginning. |

Location: Where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain... | In Oklahoma, they are only good for 150 mile radius from the farm. |

| I got pulled over by DPS in January, and he didn't give me a ticket, only because we show, and don't receive any monetary awards. I truly think that DPS has alot more IMPORTANT problems than stopping every horse trailer that is pulling down the roads in Texas with FARM PLATES. The trooper that stopped me stated that he is on the look out for trailers with FARM PLATES. Beware for DeWitt County. |
