Could we cut out a mid tack door from the side of the trailer take the piece we cut out add weather striping around the edge, hinges and a handle and just weld the hinges back to the side?  we want something like this but not sure if we need to buy a door (can't find any) or if we can just make it out of what we already have.  Thanks

Yes you can. To build a door, you'll first need to make a steel frame and then attach the piece of skin you removed to it. You will also have to build a steel framework, to form a door jamb inside and around the removed metal.

Many types of latches, hinges and handles, are commercially available. Weather seals of various shapes and sizes are also procurable.

If you could find a trailer door to copy, photographing it would provide instructions involved in its fabrication. Duplicating a commercial product, would lessen the chances of making mistakes, and shorten your construction time. It would also provide an idea of what materials are necessary to effect its build.
