Hi all, I am new to this forum. My husband and I are looking to upgrade our weekender 1994 Silverado and have found a nice 2005 Silverlite 3 Horse Living Quarters with a 8 foot slide out. Really nice well taken care of trailer. However, we are backcountry riders in the northwest and therefore are usually at fairly remote trailheads. I know these sliders have a manual crank as backup. My concern is the bumpy roads we sometimes travel to these trailheads. Anyone out there have any opinions or experiences with slideouts that they could share in helping us determine if a slideout is an option for use based on where we will be using this trailer? Also, does the trailer need to be absolutely leveled before the slider can be slid out?Thanks so much!

OK - I messed that up. It's an 8' LQ with a 6' slide out:>)

Most slideouts work pretty trouble free nowdays; as they have been available long enough that most of the bugs have been worked out.  The slideout phenomena comes from the RV industry, which started the slideout revolution.

A bigger concern might be that Silverlites are no longer built, which might make it more difficult to purchase parts or have any warranty work done (if that was still available).

most camping areas that you would want to try to get into with a rig will be fairly flatish.  I have parked my 4 horse on a slight incline (front to back) and have been just fine.putting out the slide.

I only have the one jack on the front of the trailer- so when I am going to use the slide I put jack stands at the front corner frame to support the trailer if I am going to unhitch from the truck (although with the 1 jack foot it does feet stable.

your silverlite should have a button just inside the door that will extend you slide out. there is a manual option with access just below the camper door.

I purchased my 05 4H trailer "used" in October of 10, have used it about 3 times this winter- so far I am very pleased with this trailer.
