Location: lakeland, fl | FIL is helping me build a new ramp for the trailer, as the other one was rusting in a very big way. I need to get the latches for the back, as well as the hinge-things for the rod that attaches ramp to trailer. Where is the best place to get them?Also, I bought the springs locally. The old springs were shot, so we had to get new ones so that I don't give myself a hernia trying to close the ramp. The ones on the trailer were about an inch inside diameter, and about 8" long. The ones they sold me at the trailer store are a hair over 1.5" inside diameter, and about 3" long. Ramp is only a bit over an inch thick since we used much stronger tubing. Will those springs work? I'm having some doubts, especially since I can't find a 1.5" rod to use. The biggest I've been able to find locally is 1.25".FIL has been welding for YEARS, but he's not redone the springs on a horse trailer ramp. However, when I showed him what the trailer store sold me, his comment was along the lines of "that's not really what came off the trailer..."I don't want to get rid of the ramp entirely and replace it with doors, as I don't like unloading off a step in a straight-load trailer.Also, this trailer was made in 1989. At this point, the thing is all but home-made anyway. The only original parts are the hitch, the walls, and the roof. We pretty much took the entire thing apart and re-did it. So I doubt the manufacturer is going to still have stock parts for it. | |

Sometimes we cannot trust local stores, all they want is to sell their items, without consideration of what we really need. They keep on recommending some parts that in the end doesn't work. Its just a sad scenario.
