Location: Bingham, Ne | I just purchased a 1999 Featherlite stl 6' 8"x 16'. The tires on the front axle look like they tipped in on the top. It is a torsion axle and I was wondering if it could be straightened or can I replace the spindles or do I have to replace the entire axle? |

Location: Minneapolis, MN | The spindles are welded in...it's the whole axle. You may find a chassis shop that could bend the axle, but I just replace them. |

Location: Northern Utah | I hit something on the road and bent my axles in October. I was looking into the options of replacing one or both axles when I stumbled across a local alignment shop. Wanting to know if one or both axles were bent, I took the trailer in and had them run an alignment,. They reported both axles bent and straighten both while they had the trailer on the rack. It cost me $80, Much much cheaper than what it would have cost to replace axles at around 400 per axle plus the labor. So far they have performed like new. No tire problems. Look for a tire and alignment shop that deals with bigger rigs. Trucks and large trailers. The small tire dealers that focus on selling to the automarket just won't have the alignment rack that can handle a large horse trailer. Also. Torrison axles sit very close to the bottom floor of the trailer. depending on how the axle is bent, There may not be room to position the hydraulic ram to bend the axle the right direction. Which means you will have to replace the axle. |
