Location: Kalamazoo, MI | My door is bad... and looking for a passenger side door for my 1991 featherlight horse trailer. Its a bumper pull with dressing room door. Used door would be great!! To buy new its over $1000!! Anyone junking out a trailer? Please help!! |

| Did your door pit and sort of disintegrate the aluminum on your door? I have a 1999 FL9440 which is starting to pit on the outside. On the interior, it has a big hole and the aluminum is simply eroding away.
I wonder if this is endemic to Featherlites?

Location: Kalamazoo, MI | Well that could have happened but if the wind didn't blow the door and have it fall apart I would have never noticed it rotting from the inside. The aluminum is good on the door. The inside is rotten. |

| I wonder if you could have the door refaced? That might be cheaper. I called Featherlite and they gave me to a tech .. I sent photos and had questions about how to stop it, but the tech never called back after I sent the photos.
My friend that has a FL9407 said her door started pitting and she put alumimun cladding over it. That's great, but it doesn't stop the problem. I'd like not to have to replace this door. |

| Thanks Paul, I need to do that. I was going to ask too, who would I contact to have someone rebuild the door if Featherlite doesn't have any ideas!!!! There is nothing wrong with the frame, it's the insulation that is causing the problem. I know Gard said something about it in another thread, but I am not the one that could do the repairs myself. It's amazing that the aluminum turns to a powder.

Location: western PA | Any competent fabricator familiar with aluminum should be able to reskin a door. The old metal will be cut out from the frame, and a new one is welded in its place. The only real difficulty would be matching the original exterior paint. This is an expensive way to discover what aluminum corrosion is all about. Prepriming the new interior door skin will eliminate any such future problems.

Location: Kalamazoo, MI | I ended up having a local farmer good with equipment rebuild the door. He took it all apart and rebuilt it with the orginal parts. Hopefully with more reinforcement it will stay together this time! Jen |

| I might have to give you PEM, I need my door redone, but here in Dayton OH, not sure how to go about doing it. Sure would like to get the door solid so I can use the trailer for years to come!
