Location: Nokesville		Does anyone know where the fuse is on a 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500 for the inside trailer lights? The lights work just fine when hooked up to my F150 so I know it is the truck and not the trailer. I've been testing any of the fuses on the side of the instrument panel and the under hood fuse panel that say anything about "trailer" or "aux" on them but they all test fine. I even replaced some of them with new fuses just in case, but the darn lights won't work! They used to work in the past so I think the most likely culprit is a blown fuse but which one?

"The green 40 amp fuse"...

In the under hood fuse box, a 40 amp fuse goes in the first socket on the top left. Rip off the paper and pull out the red blank. Top left is looking at the fuse box from the drivers side front wheel. I think its labeled aux. post 1. This 40 amp fuse should power the 12 volt circuit that powers the 12 volt aux. feeding your trailer interior lights, load lights, etc. This plug wire will be hot all the time no matter if the truck is running or not, key is in the ignition or not. If the truck has a battery in it and the 40 amp fuse installed then the plug should be hot. There should have been a new 40 amp fuse shipped with your truck when it was new. It would have been in the glove box along with the trailer wiring pigtail...

This is a GM 2500HD that you have with the factory trailering package and not a regular 2500..... Correct?

  If it's a regular 2500 or the 1500HD, then disregard anything I have posted on the matter because I don't have a clue about either of these two models.

Location: Nokesville		I put a new 40 amp fuse in that #1 spot and still no lights. I'll take it to a trailer place tomorrow and hopefully they can figure it out. I took the truck to a chevy service center and they told me nothing wrong with the truck, must be the trailer. Sigh.

Rigged up a camping lantern in there for tonight as we are riding at an indoor arena but I'd dearly love to get this fixed.

Took it to Taylor Boyz and they soon found the problem. It was a corroded 12 volt connection under the truck feeding into the plug socket in the bed. They replaced the wire and voila! Lights in the trailer!

I'm bringing the trailer back next week for a safety inspection and annual service and they will replace the other connections under the truck as they are not properly insulated either.
