I just bought a 2 horse slant Carry On Horse trailer. I found a Vortex dealer in the Seattle Area that charges less than half of a Rhino spray. $5 a square foot!

My question is the floor is wood, this trailer has never had a horse in it and I want the whole inside sprayed, seamless but I know I will have to put mats in. And I am ok with that. 

2 questions:

It is single wall, the spray will go up 4 feet from the floor and be a quarter inch thick. Do I need to put plywood up on the walls before they spray?

 How do I do the floor since it is 2 x 6 wood? I don't want to spend the cash and the floor rot and I have to tear out the liner to replace the wood.

Any info would be appreciated!

You do not need a floor coating over a bare wood flooring, You will need mats to protect the flooring from abrasion such as the horses pawing. A properly maintained wooden flooring can last decades.

The bed liner material can easily be sprayed over steel products. If the walls are aluminum, they will have to be properly prepped.

If the walls are a single skin, I would recommend installing a plywood liner on the butt side. Without it, any kicking will result in outward dents of the siding, that will easily be visible from the outside. Our horse kicked enough once to actually tear some of the sheet metal.

I think the sprayed in liner for your trailer will be a waste of money, while offering little protection and durability

Location: Santa Rosa, CA		I just bought a 2010 Logan that came with Vortex lining sprayed in, including the floor. I don't like the lining. It was a huge hassle to have the rubber mats installed over it as there are few adhesives that will stick to the rubber and vortex lining. So the dealer tried to just rivet the mats in place and of course they pooched and sagged right away. Back to the dealer..... We wound up after much frustration having the dealer line the walls with 1/4" plywood and then glue and rivet the mats to that.

I don't like the vortex on the wood floor (there are rubber mats over all of this) because I can see that over years that liner might pop loose enough to let water invade and rot the wood ---- and you won't know easily. There is already one spot where a floor board dried (installed green....grrr Logan!) and split. The Vortex had already kind of popped loose around the nail and split.

If I were you, I'd do a great job matting the walls and cover the wood with good floor mats and call it good. If you have a single wall you should probably get some plywood in the walls and back do you don't have hoof marks on the exterior from kicks.
