Just wondering if your going to the AQHA World Show and do a little Shooting? Had not even thought about it. Just got done with Regionals and World for CMSA. Better half was talking about it for next year, she is riding a AQHA mare (the same horse she started with last year) and has been doing great. I'm riding my APHA mare that I finally got going good this year. (after we found out I had saddle tree issues) Funny thing about this shooting deal, a load of people we know or know of are always talking about needing to find a faster, better horse or find someone to train their horse to shoot. The couple we are using needed NO so-called traiining at all. We have had these horses since they was yearlyings and we or I should say my better half has done every bit of the ground work on them. We just started shooting off the ground and jumped on and took off. |

Location: Decatur, Texas | Something esle we are waiting on with AQHA and APHA both is offering a Mounted Shooting class in regular shows. APHA has really limited offereings for Performance horses any way and even fewer for bredding stock paints. At least some of the shoots we are going to offer PAC and now offering a deal thru AQHA to track points. Not really a big deal since we are not bredding and not selling but it would be nice to have something to back up what you tell people about your horses. |

Location: Colorado | How did it go at CMSA World? There were some folks I know from Colorado that went to Amarillo- I haven't talked to them since they came back though. Did you get that big truck you were thinking about? |

Did you get that big truck you were thinking about? Actually did not get to go to World this year. With 103 animals total and a 5 day trip could not get anyone to help out. (kids was going to help out but backed out 2 days before). Plus we are baby setting 3 more dogs and 3 cats for a lady that was called back it SERVE our Country for 18 months. I even had to miss Regionals this year but better half got to go and done pretty good, but did not want to do World by herself. I did buy the truck for $4500. and did not leave the lot with it. Opened my mouth and priced it to another guy and he bought it on the spot for $7500.... Guess I have to find another one now. |

I know the AQHA World Show is doing a demonstration on Mounted Shooting. Ive never seen it done before. You must try and get time to go watch it..... We are having fun with it. Better half has pretty much giving up barrel racing and we both pretty give up team roping for this. Still into trail challange stuff and working cow horse stuff. But shooting has gone to the top of our list. AQHA has finally got on board with this stuff and hopefully within the next year or so it will be offer at a local level through AQHA and APHA both. Right now they are only doing demo's and just starting at major shows. |

Good for you for helping out the lady who was called up. Sounds like you did good on the truck thing, too. Even if that wasn't quite how you planned it! I took one of my young horses to a shooting practice a couple of months ago to see what it was about, and to see how he reacted to the shooting. He did fine with it, and it looks like fun! I found out I knew a few of the people there already. Everybody was very friendly, and very helpful. I think I'm going to play with it a lttle bit this next spring. |

Location: Decatur, Texas | The lady we are helping was going to use a boarder up north of us and they was going to charge her $1200. per month for 18 months! I know they have to charge but come on this is stupid. Yes, the truck deal didn't work like I wanted but pays the bills and there should be another truck around the corner. The shooting folks are a different group of people, unlike team roping and barrel racing. These people will offer guns to use, holsters, hats and even offered my better half a horse to use last year when hers was down with a shoe problem for one shoot. We was really lucking when it came to horses we have 2 that we just pretty much got on and started shooting off of, but we also have a couple that are fine shooting off the ground but when your in the saddle it is a different story. |
