| I just got a dodge mega cab 2010, I'am looking at getting a horse trailer with lq. I need to hall 6 horses. How big of a lq can I have? |

| I can't afford a bigger truck. I have pulled 30' metal stock trailers and longer to Houston, Dallas, Denver, and St louis, with just a 1 ton pickups no problems at all fully loaded with show cattle. I have never been around horse trailers with lq. That is why I joined this site. |

Location: Western WA | I owned the 4' dressing room only version of my current LQ trailer before I bought the LQ trailer. The LQ trailer is just about double the weight of the non-LQ trailer. I don't think you are going to get much of a LQ if you also need to haul 6 horses and tow with a 1 ton. |

First off with the mega cab and short bed you will either have to buy a trailer with a tappered nose or buy a set back hitch. With the set back hitch you will lower your weight carrying cap. alittle bit. A 6 horse trailer with a 1-ton truck my opinion you are going to limit yourself to something around a 4' to 6' living quarters package. My personal opinion with a 1 ton truck you are limited to say a 10' to 12' LQ and 4 horse trailer (just a ballpark guess) All depending on weight of the trailer. Some will agree and even more will disagree. It is not the truck will not pull the weight, it is will the truck STOP that much weight! |

| I have pulled same size your asking about in a 10' and it was a load with all six horses. Here is my opinion:
BRAKES BRAKES BRAKES...
If you can get one with elec/hyd then you will have no problem. The one i pulled was all elec and stopped like crap. I pull a 16' Bloomer 4 horse now with 10' pod, 8 high. No problem. Stopping is good or as good as it can be. It doesnt bother me. Now passing is another story. The 04 bloomer the dodge would run off with it but it was balanced better than this 08 model. This one is a tad more tongue heavy.
Again once you pull with elec/hyd brakes you will want nothing less. Much smoother especially with a controller like maxbrake. The only complaint that I know of for the dodge and this set up is some have said they didnt get enough voltage from the controller in the truck to use it.
