We replaced the original TV with a digital last year.  No change to the antenna. At each camping location we rescan for available signals.  Some places where we use to get a few analog stations we now get nothing.  One place we found 9 digital channels.  I agree with you that it seems like we get fewer channels in the digital world.

It appears that 60-65 miles is the limit for the digital signals.

This whole changeover has been a real hardship for people living in rural areas.  It's not just distance.  My friend who lives just a little east of Denver can hardly get anything at all.  She thought she'd be able to get more with an outdoor antenna, but looking at the site I posted, that doesn't seem to be true.  The changeover is something that should not have been done until it could have been done better and without depriving people of simple television service.
