Location: Lakeview, MI | I just found out yesterday that three leaf springs are broke in my truck. Not the main ones, but two on one side and one on the other, in the rear. I was told not to hook my trailer up to it until I can get it fixed, which is not a problem. But can I haul sawdust in it? I drive under a hopper and they dump the sawdust down into the bed of the truck. Will this be ok? I only haul it about four miles..... They are looking for some leaf springs thru a salvage yard for me. Any idea how much these might run and how involved it is to install them? Just looking for ideas of cost. 97 Ford F250 is what they will be going on... |

Location: Rocky Mount N.C. | Get those spring repaired first. Those leaf springs hold the rear axle to the truck chassis. If you're hauling heavy, you might want to add a set of these while you're at it. http://timbren.com/ses-kits.htm Cost will vary so far a replacing/repairing leaf springs. I would send the springs to a spring shop to have the packs rearched/rebuilt so that both sides will match in carrying capacity. Buying from a junk yard....... Well, you may be buying junk. |

Thanks for the advice. I am not hauling to heavy, I just bought this truck and guess I didn't look at those closely. Dang it! Check out www.car-part.com, this is what all wrecking yards use to locate parts. Just follow the information listed and scroll down to leaf springs rear and search for your vehicle. My opinion if you are wanting to replace with wrecking yard parts I would look at maybe using F-350 springs. Looks like the prices around you is going to be anywhere from 75 per side all the way to just over a 100.00 per side. Also whatever way you go, do both sides at the same time... You might want to search down south and pay the shipping to get non-rusted springs..... |
